Sprout was launched by Roots Technologies, a startup founded in 2019 by Andy Lee, an ex-Uber Asia Pacific business executive, and Tony Sun, a China product & engineering leader with a PhD in Computer Science from UCLA. Together, they have a combined 40-years of global startup experience launching companies to scale and building up the next generation of business and technology leaders. They saw a gaping need in the global marketplace to digitize our stakeholders information and relationships.
In 2019, we were selected to join the Hong Kong Cyberport Incubation Program and survived the great Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020 to launch Sprout. We were self funded and raised our first external round in 2020 with a group of five prominent, early-stage investors.

Team You Are Joining:
This is a pure startup environment and you will be joining our founding team in Hong Kong and be part of the management of this startup. You will work with our co-founders and will be shaping the many early team culture and structure the business. This role will also closely work with our stakeholders such as product and engineering teammates.
Problem You Will Solve:
As the founding member of Sprout, you will play a key role in building and nurturing our people experience, operational foundations and all related relationships. You will be helping the company quickly ramp up in terms of many organizational issues such as building headcount and hypothesizing, testing and solving some early development related issues that will shape the future of the organization.
As Head of People, you will begin by wear many hats and champion many initiatives, including leading all recruitment efforts across departments including managing external recruiters, candidate sourcing, interview loops and onboarding teammates in Hong Kong and Beijing. You will also manage our early administrative, business operations, and where ever help is needed.
You will act as a business partner to the co-founders and management team to build and maintain a transparent, world class, empathetic and high performing company culture. You will lead in the creation and socialization our core values. Your role is to ensure teammates are coming up with solutions while “doing the right thing.”
As Head of Administration, you will immediately roll up your sleeves and dive deep into the water and support all administrative tasks and challenges in a fast-paced environment. You will be known as a logistical “fixer” and an experienced “air traffic controller”.
As part of a new startup, there are a lot of tasks and problems that require a detailed oriented, thoughtful and proactive person. There will also be many times where you will be needed to strategically “block and tackle” for your executives.
About the Role
As the founding member of the People Team, you will play a key role in building and nurturing our people experience, operational foundations and all related relationships. You will be an experienced problem solver, diagnosing problems and testing solutions, and delivering value expeditiously and at high levels of excellence. We want you to be a driving force behind creating a stellar employee experience at Sprout.
In this role, you will design, build and champion our People strategy, framework and most importantly, our company values. You will map, categorize and track the key People performance metrics. You will partner with internal and external partners to build workflows and process improvements that result in more reliable, effective People data. You will set the standard of rigor for how Sprout’s teams interact with and use our systems.
At Sprout, and particularly within this role, a successful Head of People will have the ability to operate and manage comfortably and effectively in a fast-paced, startup environment. You have authentic relationship building skills and are self-driven. You are detailed, organized, strategic and even creative with solutions that align interests and motivate all parties to work together. Preferred, though not required, experience as an early stage founder, head of HR, and/or venture stage senior recruitment professional.
Your friends describe you as highly organized, meticulous and extremely helpful. You the kind of person that takes initiative and seeks to create order out of things that are left unorganized. Because of this, you will be called upon for your ninja skills to organize and execute a range of projects and activities.
You are a strong communicator (fluency in Mandarin with simplified Chinese reading and writing is a plus) with deep experience connecting with C-level executives and decision makers. You understand what it takes to work in a pure startup environment, and may even have experience working in and/or are passionate about the venture capital and start-up ecosystem.
