This project seeks to explore material qualities and how it can be transcended in design.
The fabricated necklace is a result of the interest and exploration of material qualities and how can design be used to transcend these qualities. Taking brass and cord, material with very opposing qualities, flexible and rigid, hard and soft. The aim was to augment the perceived qualities of each material. The result was the necklace where the brass tubes were broken down and connected in knot chains, cord was tied in a network and dipped into resin which was then cured in a mold to hold shape. The design was unified through the use of knots in both the cord and the brass. The materials were given a new meaning and qualities, the cord became rigid and ascends upwards, defying gravity and its soft quality. On the other hand, the brass follows the contours of the body and inherent a soft and flowing quality.
Hand made in brass and paracord, patina with liver of sulphur.
